As of 3:10 am (10/30/2012) there are just under 17,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers without power in Arlington. To help give some perspective, there were over 60,000 outages after the June Derecho.
If you are without power, you are likely reading this post on a smartphone. You can call Dominion to report your outage (1-866-366-4357), or if you want to avoid being on hold, you can use your smartphone to visit www.dom.com to report your outage and track power restoration. Like to make a few comments about the Dominion Electric “Interactive Maps” of Power outages. As of 6:13 their maps showed 2 or 3 points where power was out in my area of the county Arlington Forest when in truth the whole of Arlington Forest is without power – this includes several large cond buildings and most importantly Culpepper Gardens a 250+ bed senior living facility. Accordingly, it is most frustrating to be sent to a site to get information when the site is incorrect or long out of date. In fact when I enter my address the site reports that there is no problem at that address. Not only does this reflect poorly on Dominion Electric but also on your office because by doing so you are you are lending your imprimator of trust to the site.
In addition,if one does not have an “account” with Dominion Electric there is no way to report an outage to Dominion by way of the internet. As a result, people who live in buildings where the building has a single account rather than individual unit accounts, it is impossible to report the outage.
You ought to look into these 2 items.

It is important to note the “dots” on the map represent multiple accounts, depending on color. The lowest denomination is 0-50 accounts, while the largest represents 2,500 accounts and greater. We’ve spoken with Dominion, and they would never put singular points of outage on a map, as it would leave homes open to crimes of opportunity.
Residents without Dominion accounts do have the opportunity to call 1-866-366-4357 number, which should be considered the primary option. Those Arlington residents with urgent medical needs with should call the County non-emergency number: 703-558-2222
