Crystal City Plan
Learn about the County's 40 year development plan for Crystal City that calls for more transit options, more ground-floor retail, greater density, more housing and better open spaces.
Transformation is coming to Crystal City and Pentagon City. By 2040, Crystal City and Pentagon City are estimated to add a total of 8,500 more residents, and 35,500 more jobs. As this growth happens, County already has plans under way to make this area of the County even more vibrant and walkable. How will it happen? The answer lies in Arlington’s commitment to “smart growth” planning – transit-oriented development that keeps high-density mixed-use development along our transit corridors, while preserving residential neighborhoods. This approach to planning and building community has been the backbone of Arlington’s success for more than four decades.
Growth always means more traffic and more headaches. Or does it? Find out the answer in this compelling commentary from County Board Chair Mary Hynes, which appeared recently in the local Arlington Connection newspaper.
Starting in the summer of 2012, work will begin to convert Crystal Drive, the primary thoroughfare of Crystal City, from a one-way street to a two-way street. The three-phase project will improve intersections along Crystal Drive, lay the foundation for future transit initiatives and provide easier navigation in the area.
